The Penrith Panthers have achieved an impressive four consecutive premierships in the NRL, showcasing a blueprint for consistent success. This feat stands in stark contrast to the challenges faced by other clubs like the Warriors and Titans, who have yet to secure a premiership, and the Eels, enduring a 38-year premiership drought.

An NRL premiership — it can take years to build towards but just one injury or one exit for all of that work to come crashing down.

Penrith have found the blueprint to never-ending success, while the Storm will always be a chance so long as Craig Bellamy is running the ship. Can the Roosters overcome the exit of four high-profile players? Has the tide finally turned for the Tigers? And what does the post-DCE era mean for the Sea Eagles?

But then Kyle Feldt scored a miracle try to send the game into golden point, where Hunt dropped the kick-off and the rest became history. Beyond the next two seasons, Coby Black looms as Brisbane’s highly-touted replacement at halfback; but as with all young halves, there’s no guarantee on when – or even if – he develops into an elite player.A 2025 premiership is probably out of reach but with some of the best young talent in the game on their roster, the Raiders could very well spring into contention in 2026.

Throw in Kaeo Weekes, Xavier Savage, Ata Mariota, Trey Mooney and Seb Kris and the future is very bright in the nation’s capital. But all these young guys need is time. The Bulldogs’ Jersey Flegg side won the premiership this year, the SG Ball team made the Grand Final and the Harold Matthews side lost in a semi-final by two points.

They take time for several reasons but the biggest is developing a playmaker who can deliver on the biggest stage. All said, it means the Sharks are getting closer to the club’s second premiership in history with every minute Hynes plays. There’s likely to be some teething problems next season given Kristian Woolf will be in his first year as an NRL head coach, while there’ll also be a leadership void too following the retirement of captain Jesse Bromwich.

Not only will inspirational captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui return from an ACL injury in the early rounds, but the pack has also been bolstered by the signing of Reagan Campbell-Gillard — who is fresh off winning the Eels’ Player of the Year honours. Cherry-Evans is undoubtedly the Sea Eagles’ most important player but his contract expires at the end of 2025 and at 35-years-old there’s every chance the star halfback will retire after next season.

Luke Brooks has ample experience but plays his best footy at five-eighth, while the jury is still out on weather back-up playmaker Jake Arthur could be the answer at halfback.Let’s be real, the Storm have been in a premiership window since the day coach Craig Bellamy arrived at the club in late 2002.

Utoikamanu is still just 24 and will undoubtedly take his game to the next level in Melbourne, as will fellow rising stars Jack Howarth and Eli Katoa. However, it’s defence that wins premierships as Penrith have shown during their four-year reign, so that’s the aspect of the game North Queensland should be working hard to improve this off-season.

With that said though, this team will only go as far as star fullback Kalyn Ponga will take them, and he’ll need a little more help in key games at the end of the season. There are also big questions over whether the Eels have the talent upfront to give this team the necessary go-forward, although there is talent there in the form of Junior Paulo, J’maine Hopgood and young gun Charlie Guymer.

To offset Hunt’s loss the Dragons have recruited former representative hooker Damien Cook from Souths, current Queensland and Kangaroos star Valentine Holmes and former Eels skipper Clint Gutherson. But once the Dragons’ ageing players retire they will leave a massive void at the club, so they need to open their premiership window fast before it closes again. They were dreadful last season, badly underachieving. However, there’s one key difference in 2025. The legendary Wayne Bennett has joined the Rabbits on a three-year deal.

They’ve taken a big hit from a roster standpoint, with gun centres Joey Manu and Joseph Suaalii defecting to rugby union, while they’ve lost plenty of veteran leadership in the form of Luke Keary and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.
