Justice Max Baer verifies the certificates during the 59th Pennsylvania Electoral College meeting, where the commonwealth’s 20 electors unanimously voted for Joe Biden for president and Kamala Harris for vice president, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dec. 14, 2020. The justice was set to retire at the end of the year at the age of 75, which is the court’s mandatory age retirement.
The passing of Baer means Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf will now need to fill the vacancy left in the state's hightest court.
