Pennsylvania officials teamed up to talk about safety over the Fourth of July holiday.A lake at Codorus State Park in York County was the backdrop for the message Thursday morning. The group included representatives from the Pennsylvania State Police, the Fish and Boat Commission, a deputy state fire marshal, and others.Rachael Thurner-Diaz, a Fish and Boat Commission officer, said life jackets or any flotation device are imperative when you're on the water.
Safety with fireworks was another issue.A deputy state fire marshal emphasized the importance of keeping fireworks out of children's hands due to the danger, noting that sparklers can burn at temperatures of 2,000 degrees. That's as hot as a blow torch.State police said troopers will be on the lookout for aggressive drivers on the road. They will also operate sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols and will be looking for distracted drivers.
