"They put out a memo about trillions of dollars last night," said Shapiro. "They seem to be walking that back." President Trump has said that this is a temporary measure, but Shapiro said he's worried it could bring long-term effects. "I worry anytime the White House wants to change its commitment to the public and how it could impact the commonwealth," said Shapiro.Education, care for veterans and farmers, and fixing roads across the country could be impacted here in the Commonwealth, according to the governor.Short-term challenges could face state employees, kids in Head Start relying on services, and veterans who rely on initiatives.
"If the federal government cuts its funding, that creates a massive pressure for the states," added Shapiro.
