University seeks parity in per-student funding with other Pennsylvania publics.

University leaders earlier this week called for a 47.6 percent increase in the state’s annual appropriation to the university’s general operating budget next year.

At the heart of the request is a $115.2 million increase in 2023-24 for general education support, on top of the $242.1. million in state aid that the university is getting this year. The fiscal 2024 request, Thorndike said, is designed to move Penn State, which already gets a bigger state aide payment than its peers in terms of raw dollars, to a level of parity in per-resident student aid with Temple.

Bendapudi said Thursday she hopes state officials will acknowledge and attack the current discrepancy.
