Penn State star Tyler Warren was named the winner of the John Mackey Award, presented annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football.

Warren was one of three finalists for the Mackey Award. He beat out Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr. and Michigan’s Colston Loveland for the honor.Warren winning the Mackey Award should not come as a surprise. Accolades have been pouring in for the Penn State standout recently. Warren won theWarren has put together an incredible season, setting Big Ten single-season records for a tight end with 88 receptions for 1,062 yards. Warren has six receiving touchdowns this season.
“They ought to bring the Mackey Award tonight,” Franklin said after Warren’s 100-yard performance against Maryland in the regular season finale. “Put it on a private jet, fly it to Tyler Warren and give it to him on Sunday. And then he should get an invitation to New York.” But the Mackey Award is more than a consolation prize. It’s recognition of the fantastic season Warren has had so far. And he’ll need to continue to be a force as Penn State looks ahead to its College Football Playoff first-round game against SMU next weekend.
