Smith, Penn State’s interim head coach for the second half of the 2025 season, is currently PSU’s associate head coach and corners coach. While he was the head coach last season, Smith got a long look at young corners Daryus Dixson and Jahmir Joseph, who were true freshmen.“I don’t think I’ve had a pair,” Smith said earlier this month when asked about Dixson and Joseph. “I’ve had one-offs. Joe Hermitt | jhermitt@pennlive.comPenn State beat Clemson 22-10 in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. Dixson and Joseph were excellent in coverage, playing fast and physical. Dixson is listed at 6-0, 195 and Joseph is 6-0, 193. Dixson was credited with three pass breakups against the Tigers, and Joseph had five solo tackles and a pass breakup. Joseph also had an interception return for a touchdown earlier in the season and Dixon appeared in all 13 of Penn State’s games, finishing with 24 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a six pass breakups.“Their approach, those guys are unbelievable. Both of them are well over 3.0 students so, everything about them is right. “Their approach, how they attack the game, how they prepare for the game. They’re obviously athletic and talented. But their mental approach is what separates them.”
