Penn State's offense overpowered Ohio State in the second round of the Big Ten tournament.
INDIANAPOLIS – There is a sign outside of Ohio State’s practice gym that borrows a quote from one of Chris Holtmann’s mentors.
By the end, the Nittany Lions had scored on 22 of 30 second-half possessions to flip the script and send Ohio State plummeting to another Big Ten cellar-dweller. Despite shooting only 32.1% during the first half and being held to eight points in the paint, the Nittany Lions still finished with their most efficient offensive game of the season against a Big Ten foe.
Much of it came with Penn State’s guards repeatedly backing down their Ohio State counterparts into the post and either scoring or drawing a double team, allowing a teammate an easy finish at the rim or a wide-open 3-point attempt. “I could feel different watching the tape, I felt like, in terms of our toughness and our connectedness, it was as good as we've been in a few games, for sure.”
