ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis called out Penn State players after James Franklin was fired.
is not the only person responsible for this season’s stunning collapse, according to ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis.last week, Davis said that Nittany Lions players need to look in the mirror and take some responsibility for the 3-3 start to the season that ultimately led to Franklin being fired.
"If you’re a Penn State player, somebody sends you this, and you’re listening to this, and you want to get mad, you want to say the administration shouldn’t have done this, they quit on us, blah, blah, blah. When you’re looking to point fingers, that’s fine. Make sure you point one in the mirror,“ Rece Davis said. “Because the players didn’t live up to their end of the bargain.” Davis went on to say that before NIL was a big part of college football, he would have been more hesitant to be critical of players. However, in today’s day and age when some players are making millions, he has no problem calling them out. “This is part and parcel what happens when you get paid,” Davis said. “You know, I would love it if I could come on here and give all of my opinions and go on GameDay every week and say the things I want to and never have to be criticized for it. That’s not the way the world works. “When you’re a professional, and the players are professionals, and they’re men. They may be young men and not fully matured men, but they’re men, you’re going to get some criticism.” Penn State was viewed as a national title contender entering the season, before losing three straight games to Oregon, UCLA and Northwestern as James Franklin was Davis understands that coaches receive the majority of the blame when seasons go awry, and rightfully so. But the players deserve plenty of blame, too, he believes. “Your coaches bear the brunt of this because it is their job to get you to play at a high level. … Your number one job is to win. They didn’t win enough; it’s their responsibility. They get fired for it. It’s their responsibility; they deserve the blame. They’ve earned it. They’ve got the contract; that’s the way it goes,“ he said. “But not exclusively. Those guys wearing those Penn State uniforms deserve some of the blame, too, because they didn’t play with the passion, energy and fire that they needed to in these last two games.”How to watch Missouri vs. Auburn football today: Time, TV channel, FREE live stream If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
