James Franklin signed a new contract in 2021. That contract has been revised.

Beginning this year, the CFP includes one additional game compared to the previous four-team format from 2014-23.
It’s not immediately clear how exactly Franklin’s incentive payouts will change. In the iteration of the contract signed in 2021, Franklin received the following CFP-related incentives:Penn State, ranked No. 4 nationally, is in prime position to make the inaugural 12-team CFP. The Nittany Lions are 10-1 overall with a 7-1 mark in Big Ten play.
