Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen was named a nominee for the Broyles Award.
Tom Allen, the Nittany Lions’ first-year defensive coordinator, is one of 65 assistant coaches across the country nominated for the Broyles Award.
Allen is one of seven Big Ten coaches nominated, joining Illinois offensive coordinator Barry Lunney Jr., Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines, Michigan State defensive coordinator Joe Rossi, Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi and Rutgers running backs coach Damiere Shaw.
Allen is one of three new coordinators for the Nittany Lions this season, along with offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki and special teams coordinator Justin Lustig. Allen, after serving as Indiana’s longtime head coach, was hired byThe Nittany Lions’ defensive numbers are impressive this season. Among 134 FBS teams, Penn State ranks seventh in scoring defense , seventh in rush defense and ninth in pass defense .
