Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Is it safe to say the return of the Penn Relays, after two years of cancellations, proves the old saying true? As the Penn Relays gets set to make its epic return next week, the old adage may be better off rewritten: Absence makes the Garden State grow stronger. With five athletes or teams seeded first and another 14 lodged comfortably inside the top five, this year seems to have a special undercurrent as New Jersey’s track and field ambassadors prepare for three days in Philadelphia.
Action begins Thursday and continues through Saturday at Franklin Field. Since New Jersey will be so well-represented, narrowing down our annual list of the top contenders proved to be an even more difficult task than previous years.
