Mike Sullivan has been selected U.S. coach for the 2026 Milan Olympics, an expected move that puts the two-time Stanley Cup champion in charge of the country's bid for its first gold medal since the 'Miracle On Ice' in 1980.

Sullivan, a native of Marshfield, Massachusetts, was an assistant at the 2006 Olympics, also in Italy in Turin. Most recently he was on John Tortorella's staff for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. NHL players are set to be back in Milan and then France in 2030 after an agreement was reached between the league, players' association, International Olympic Committee and International Ice Hockey Federation. It's an opportunity for a generation of American stars, includingSullivan, who coached Pittsburgh to the Cup in 2016 and 2017, will run the show. He was supposed to coach the U.S. in Beijing in 2022 before the NHL withdrew late because of pandemic scheduling issues.
