Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow says the state government will ensure the Penang South Islands project's environmental management plan is approved. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, April 29, 2023.
He said the approval will take about two months, and that reclamation work is expected to start in the third quarter of this year. Chow was responding to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s statement, which said the DOE’s approval of the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment is not the final hurdle to starting the project.
“We will present proposals on how to comply with the set conditions, and a series of technical meetings will be held for agencies to give feedback on the report prepared by our consultants,” he said.
