GEORGE TOWN: Police have set up three roadblocks at major roads in Penang in the first day of the movement control order (MCO).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the roadblocks were meant to monitor the movement of the public during the MCO.

"This operation is conducted more on to giving advice to the public and reminding them about the MCO," he said when contacted. ACP Soffian said the roadblocks were mounted at three main roads which were at Batu Feringgi, Paya Terubong and Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu. It is understood that the roadblocks started at 3pm on Wednesday and will continue until the last day of MCO.

On Monday Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared that the entire country will be on MCO starting from March 18 to 31 to deal with the rise in Covid-19 cases.
