Pelosi was seen as a key figure behind the Democratic campaign to persuade Biden to withdraw. Since then, relations between the Bidens and Pelosi have reportedly been strained. On Thursday, MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell questioned Pelosi about Biden's persistent claim, even in the final days of his presidency, that he could have beaten Trump if not for the pressure to resign. Pelosi countered, stating that the Democrats successfully held their seats in the House, arguing that Biden's presence at the top of the ticket would have likely resulted in a different outcome. Mitchell then pointed out Jill Biden's interview with the Washington Post, where she expressed disappointment in Pelosi's actions, stating that they had been on her mind lately due to their 50-year friendship. Mitchell inquired if there was any possibility of repairing the relationship, asking if Pelosi had spoken to Jill Biden.
