The House vote will “affirm” the ongoing impeachment process and emphasize its transparency

After weeks of refusing to heed Republicans' calls for a House vote on the impeachment inquiry, Speaker of the Houseis finally giving in. Pelosi announced Monday that the House will vote Thursday on an impeachment resolution, which will “affirm” the ongoing impeachment investigation and “all requests for documents, subpoenas for records and testimony, and any other investigative steps previously taken or to be taken” as part of the inquiry.

By putting the impeachment inquiry up for a vote and taking pains to outline how it will be transparent, House Democrats will shut down Republicans' main talking points against the probe—that it hasn't been voted on by the full House and lacks transparency—which they've used to paint the inquiry as “illegitimate” and justify the Trump administration's continued stonewalling.
