The New Orleans Pelicans have traded All-Star forward Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors in a blockbuster deal. The trade includes a package of players and draft picks going to the Pelicans.
The New Orleans Pelicans are trading the one-time All-Star Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors , NBA insider Chris Haynes first reported Wednesday night. League sources tell ESPN that Toronto will send Bruce Brown Jr. , Kelly Olynyk , one first-round pick, and a second-round pick back to New Orleans. Ingram, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, is 27 years old and a proven scorer.
He has averaged 20 points per game in each of the last six seasons and was named the 2020 Most Improved Player. This season, Ingram is averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists while shooting 46% from the field, 37% from three, and 86% from the free-throw line.However, the Pelicans have struggled this season, sitting among the two worst teams in the Western Conference due to injuries. The Raptors aren't faring much better, hovering in the bottom four of the Eastern Conference. Ingram joins a Toronto roster that includes RJ Barrett, Scottie Barnes, Gradey Dick, Immanuel Quickley, Jakob Poeltl, and Chris Boucher. A key factor in this trade is that Ingram is in the final months of a five-year, $158 million deal. The Raptors will need to hope an extension can be secured to keep him in Toronto for the long term
