Brazilian football legend Pelé has been moved to"end-of-life" care in a hospital, according to local media reports.
The football icon is"no longer responding to chemotherapy" and has been moved into palliative care, according to a report by Folha de Sao Paulo on Saturday. It was reported earlier this week that Pelé has a respiratory infection and will remain at the hospital where he’s been since Tuesday.Pelé thanked fans in an Instagram post late Thursday for the well-wishes he’s received in a fight against cancer. He had a colon tumor removed in September 2021 and has since gone through chemotherapy.
Kely Nascimento, one of Pelé’s daughters, extended her father’s thankful message to Qatar and Brazil coach Tite, who sent positive messages to the former footballer during the World Cup.ESPN Brasil reported on Wednesday that Pele was taken to hospital because of “general swelling.” Pelé helped Brazil win the 1958, 1962 and 1970 World Cups and remains the team’s all-time leading scorer with 77 goals in 92 matches.
