A Wasilla woman was hit and killed by a school bus in Palmer on Thursday morning while walking in the middle lane of travel, Palmer police say.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A pedestrian who was hit and killed by a school bus in Palmer Thursday morning has been identified as 48-year-old Rebecca J. Williams of Wasilla, according to the Palmer Police Department.
Police say they were notified of the collision at about 6:31 a.m. on Arctic Avenue between Gulkana Street and Airport Road. First responders and bystanders attempted CPR on Williams, but she was declared dead on the scene. Preliminary investigations showed Williams was walking in the middle of the lane of travel, and police said the bus driver had no time to react. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement Arctic Avenue between South Denali Street and Airport Road was shut down in both directions earlier in the morning, according to the Palmer Police. As of 10:30 a.m. Thursday, it had reopened.
