A pedestrian was killed after stepping in front of an approaching train Thursday morning in Schertz.
A pedestrian is dead after reportedly stepping in front of a moving train in Schertz . Union Pacific called Schertz police at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday to report a train accident involving a pedestrian on the tracks. The fatal accident happened FM 78 and FM 3009 . Union Pacific told police that a person stepped onto the train tracks as the train approached, according to a news release. Police said the person appears to be a white male between 17 and 20 years old.
Investigators are working to identify the victim so they can notify the next of kin. The case remains under investigation. The tracks were closed at multiple crossings this morning as police investigated the scene until about 10 a.m. Schertz Police Chief James 'Jim' Lowery described the death as a “tragic accident that may have been avoidable.” “As a reminder, walking along or crossing railroad tracks should always be avoided as it is not only dangerous, but also illegal,” Lowery said.
