KUALA LUMPUR: Women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah crashed out in the first round of the Malaysian Open badminton championships at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday (Jan 10).

Pearly-Thinaah, the world No.6 pair, struggled against world No.14 Gabriela Stoeva-Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria and lost 21-19, 21-14 to end their campaign in 31 minutes.

It was a disappointing early exit for Pearly-Thinaah, who had done extremely well last year by winning the Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medal and the French Open title in Paris. In the mixed doubles, Hoo Pang Ron-Teoh Mei Xing gave the local fans much to cheer after reaching the second round with a 21-11, 15-21, 21-19 win over Japan’s Kyohei Yamashita-Naru Shinoya.
