WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. has filed a lawsuit against Apple with the aim of increasing competition for the iPhone and giving a leg up to smaller companies whose apps work with the ubiquitous device.

Marked improvement: Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah went down fighting to Japan’s world No. 11 Rena Miyaura-Ayako Sakuramoto in the last eight of the All-England last week.A week after a positive performance in the All-England in Birmingham, the pair received confirmation of their qualification to the Paris Olympics in July.

The pair though had struggled to replicate their success since and only showed flashes of their capabilities last year with injuries to Pearly not helping their cause. The duo stunned China’s world No. 1 Chen Qingchen-Jia Yifan in the second round before going down fighting to Japan’s world No. 11 Rena Miyaura-Ayako Sakuramoto in three games in the last eight.
