Taking place decades before the events in ‘X,’ the film focuses on the troubled life of the film’s primary antagonist, Pearl, whose dreams of acquiring stardom are severely interrupted by her discouraging mother and responsibilities of attending to her ailing father. The toxic familial relationships, coupled with loneliness, later drive her into a state of madness.
