A peaceful march for Easter Leafa on Saturday also included speeches from her family, Mayor LaFrance and Anchorage Police Department Chief Sean Case.

Mike Ross, managing editor at Alaska's News Source, stopped by Beluga Point on the Seward Highway and spotted what looked like a dog swimming toward shore. Closer viewing shows it is a black bear. And yes, they are actually good swimmers!

Police officers were repsonding to North Bliss Street and Mountain View Drive at 3:13 Saturday morning when APD said they found a man in the 400 block of North Bliss Street with a gunshot wound to his upper body. It’s a project that’s been discussed since not long after the gravel highway from Cooper Landing to Homer was completed in 1950. Now, due to funding changes, engineers say the massive task won’t be open to traffic until 2032, and will come at a price tag of around $1 billion. The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities says it has recognized the need for improvement on the Sterling Highway for years.
