The PCG announced Wednesday, April 6, that the 97-meter MRRV was successfully launched sometime last month at the Shimonoseki Shipyard in Yamaguchi, Japan for her initial shakedown cruise.

“Naging ligtas at matagumpay ang naturang inisiyatibo na layong suriin ang kahandaan ng naturang barko bago tuluyang lumayag pauwi ng Pilipinas sa susunod na buwan ,” the PCG said. Like MRRV-9701, the MRRV-9702 has a maximum speed of 24 knots and endurance of 4,000 nautical miles. The two vessels are the biggest acquisition of the PCG in terms of size to date.
