Jurors at the Old Bailey heard how PC Harper confronted the trio on August 15 last year as they attempted to steal a £10,000 quad bike from a home in Stanford Dingley, Berkshire.The 28-year-old constable had only been married for four weeks to Lissie Harper, who said she had ‘screamed and cried and broken down in fractured defeat’ following her husband’s death.
‘The killing of a police officer should see those responsible face the rest of their lives in prison. If the law won’t allow that in these circumstances then the law must be changed. As he sentenced the three teenagers Mr Justice Edis said: ‘Nothing which I can do, or could have done, if there had been a conviction for murder, can restore Andrew Harper to his loving wife and family or to the public he served so well.PC Harper, 28, had only been married to his wife Lissie for four weeks before his death
