Patrick Wilson on the red carpet
Video game adaptations have been largely hit or miss over the years, especially when creatives were afraid to lean into the source material. One project to come in the last few years that may just be the greatest video game adaptation of all time is The Last of Us, which aired its first season back in 2023.
The Last of Us Season 1 adapted the first Last of Us game in its entirety, but Season 2, which aired last year, adapted only the first half of The Last of Us Part II, focused on Ellie . The third and final season will adapt the second half of The Last of Us Part II, which takes place at the same time as the first half, but follows Abby . Production on The Last of Us Season 3 is now in production, and the hit sci-fi series is already building out its ensemble. One of the first changes was the news that Jorge Lendenborg Jr. was taking over the role of Manny from Danny Ramirez, who is stepping back to film Avengers: Secret Wars. This afternoon, news broke that Jason Ritter has joined the cast of The Last of Us as a WLF Soldier. Patrick Wilson has also joined the cast of The Last of Us Season 3 as Abby’s father, Jerry, whom Joel kills. Jerry’s death is what sets Abby on the path to killing Joel. In addition to these new castings, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord, who portray Mel, Nora, and Owen, respectively, have all been bumped to series regulars. This is all keeping in line with The Last of Us Part II. When Does ‘The Last of Us’ Season 3 Come Out? HBO has yet to assign The Last of Us Season 3 an official release date, but it has been confirmed that the show will premiere before the end of 2027. It was reported last summer that game creator Neil Druckmann is no longer working on the show, as he’s left to focus on his next project in development at Naughty Dog, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Craig Mazin has assumed full writing control on Season 3, which he’s also confirmed will be the final season of the show. Check out the first two seasons of The Last of Us on HBO Max and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Season 3. 10 10 The Last of Us Like Follow Followed TV-MA Drama Action Horror Release Date January 15, 2023 Network HBO Showrunner Craig Mazin Directors Craig Mazin, Peter Hoar, Jeremy Webb, Ali Abbasi, Mark Mylod, Stephen Williams, Jasmila Žbanić, Liza Johnson, Nina Lopez-Corrado Writers Neil Druckmann, Craig Mazin, Halley Wegryn Gross 3 Images Close Cast See All After a global pandemic destroys civilization, a hardened survivor takes charge of a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity's last hope.
