Patrick Reed opened up on missing the 2025 Ryder Cup, citing LIV Golf scoring system, family priorities, and why he won't watch the match.

This season's Ryder Cup selections have broken more than a few hearts. And while Rory McIlroy was busy hoisting the Irish Open trophy last week at The K Club, his first win there in two decades, another pro was quietly nursing disappointment.

Patrick Reed, a three-time Ryder Cup veteran, admitted he had hoped to be part of Keegan Bradley's 12-man squad heading to Bethpage Black. But the call never came.Reed's season was impressive. He posted a third-place finish at the Masters, cracked the top 25 at the U.S. Open and won LIV Golf Dallas earlier this summer. Yet inconsistencies kept him out of the six captain's picks, where Bradley left himself off the team, choosing to focus solely on his captaincy.Reed currently sits 42nd in the Ryder Cup points standings, well outside the automatic qualification zone. And with LIV Golf events not offering Ryder Cup or OWGR points, his chances were always slim.'Yeah, I mean, I was hoping. I knew it was going to be an outside shot just because of not being able to get points and things like that, just being on LIV,' Reed expressed while speaking to Philip Lanigan for the Irish Mail on Sunday.'But honestly, I felt like the game's been really good until this week. I mean, the driver has just been awful. I feel like this week has not been reflective really of how I've been playing, how I've been hitting the ball. I've been hitting the ball great.'Despite his optimism, Bradley's final picks leaned toward players in recent form. The team's captain's picks were Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns. When asked if the LIV pro would be watching the Ryder Cup, Reed's response was unexpected.'I'll definitely be rooting for the boys. But it's one of those things that I don't watch golf when I'm at home,' he expressed during the same conversation. 'Because I play so much. Because I'm always out practicing and grinding. If I start watching golf, I start turning the mindset on to analyze and to do all that.'He added, 'I realized that when I had my two little ones, I mean, there's life outside of golf. So, when I'm not practicing or playing, I'm home being a dad, being a husband, being a father and all that. Just having a good time rather than trying to be so tuned in to golf and watching other golfers play.'The Ryder Cup tees off Sept. 26 at Bethpage Black. Both Team USA and Team Europe are currently preparing through pre-event tournaments. But for the USA, only 10 of the 12 American players are competing at the Procore Championship in Napa, Calif.Notably absent are Bryson DeChambeau, who's still suspended from PGA Tour events, and Xander Schauffele, who opted out, citing rest and recovery.More Golf: PGAT Fan Favorite Confirms Return to Action, Set to Defend Title in Europe
