Firefighters evacuated 21 patients, including some newborn babies, and took them to other hospitals.
Patients at White Memorial Hospital in Boyle Heights, some who were on ventilators and in critical condition, were evacuated and taken to other hospitals because of a power outage, authorities said.
Firefighters had to physically lift and move patients down from upper floors due to the outage, Stewart said. Of the 241 patients, 21 were identified as being in critical condition and 220 were deemed non-critical and were being moved to the south tower at White Memorial Hospital. . The station also reported a woman gave birth during the blackout with the help of battery-powered flashlights.
