Fitzgerald was fired by Northwestern last month amid hazing scandal

Fitzgerald’s two younger sons, Ryan and Brendan, play football at Loyola, which is located in the Chicago suburb of Wilmette. His oldest son, Jack, is a freshman tight end at Northwestern.

According to the report, Fitzgerald passed a background check, underwent training and signed a code of conduct agreement in order to serve as a volunteer assistant coach at Loyola. He has denied any knowledge of or wrongdoing in the Northwestern hazing scandal. Fitzgerald, a native of Midlothian, Ill., starred at Northwestern in the mid-1990s and joined the Wildcats’ staff as an assistant coach in 2001. He was elevated to head coach upon the sudden death of Randy Walker in 2006, and posted a 110-101 record in 17 seasons at the Big Ten school.as interim coach after Fitzgerald was fired. The Wildcats open the season Sept. 3 at Rutgers.
