A flight from Everett to San Francisco was diverted when an off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot attempted to shut down the passenger jet's engines in the cockpit.
Paul Stephen snapped this photo after police lead a man off the plane he was on, trying to get to San Francisco. Alaska Airlines flight 2059 was diverted to Portland for officers to arrest an off-duty pilot, accused of trying to cut the engine, mid-flight. “You realize how real and helpless you are when you’re in a situation like that especially in a closed, closed-door environment and you’re not given any information.
“ didn’t say where, didn’t say when, didn’t say why. And then immediately the plane veered right and went straight down headed to Portland,” said Stephen. When the flight landed in Portland, passengers told KOMO News that six or eight police officers came on board and escorted Emerson off the plane. Stephen told KOMO News had he known the night before, he probably would have rented a car and driven back home.
