“Slag-like material” will be removed from the small shore. The area where pieces were found appears to be confined, the state said.
A section of this bayshore in Keyport, NJ, is slated to be cordoned off as a scheduled cleanup will begin July 29, 2024. Crews will determine the extent of possible contamination after one New Jersey advocate from the NY/NJ Baykeeper reported some pieces of lead in the area.

“We certainly, without question, expect cooperation,” he said, adding that requiring those who may have dumped or polluted to cover cleanup costs was possible. “And if we don’t get it, there’s trouble.” “Given what we know about leads’ toxic qualities and adverse health effects, especially to children, it was clear that we needed to take immediate action,” Congressman Pallone said Friday.
