Rain chances start this weekend, then watching Beryl next week.

AUSTIN, Texas — We've been tracking Hurricane Beryl for a while now, but we're starting to get a better understanding of the possible impacts this storm could have on Texas, including our KVUE area. Parts of Central Texas are now included in the forecast cone for Beryl.

Remember: The cone does not track the areas that are guaranteed to be impacted, rather it highlights the possible areas where the center of the storm could track. Our confidence is starting to increase in a landfall over northern Mexico late Sunday as a low-end hurricane. From there, the weakening remnants of Beryl will start to drift inland into northern Mexico or South Texas by Monday. This will bring windy weather and heavy tropical rainfall. The highest likelihood of these heavier tropical impacts is south of the KVUE area, but by Monday we could start to see scattered rain chances on the northern fringe of Beryl.

On the flip side, if the storm drifts into South Texas and then further north into Central Texas, then we could be on track for much higher rainfall totals early next week. Even if the storm weakens and falls apart to our south, it's all possible that the lingering tropical moisture that it leaves behind could interact with a few other disturbances later in the week to help assist in our rain chances. In the meantime the extended forecast can be found below:
