Camp SAYLA was shut down following a failed inspection from the Department of Youth Services (DYS), which immediately followed the arrest of one of the camp’s instructors on multiple counts of child abuse.

Organization s have expressed interest in partnering with the facility to ensure kids are being treated fairly following allegations the camp has recently faced.

HENRY COUNTY, Ala. - A potential partnership could result in a juvenile camp in Henry County opening again. Camp SAYLA, also referred to as Sayla Therapeutic Resources, is a facility that houses low level juvenile offenders that is supposed to help them become productive members of society.David Money, Henry County’s Probate Judge and County Commission Chairman, said organizations have reached out about potential partnerships to make sure the camp is used to its fullest potential.

“We really want to get it open. It presents a great service to us. It saves us a lot of money as well,” said Money. “Hopefully, I hate to put a time on it, but I’d say in the next 60 days, we’ll have some news on hopefully the reopening of Camp SAYLA. It’s really been good for Henry County.” Money said the decision to reopen would be a collaborative effort between him and District Judge James Peterson. If they agree to reopen it, Money said the decision will then come before the county commission.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
