is on the verge of becoming the longest in U.S. history, as lawmakers remain locked in a stalemate over how to fund the agency. The shutdown reached 43 days as of Saturday, and is expected to surpass previous records if Congress fails to reach an agreement soon. "Democrats have forced the second LONGEST shutdown in history to defund the police, reopen the border, and stop illegal immigration enforcement," "House Republicans REFUSE to let Democrats jeopardize our country with their crazy policies," he added. The House on Friday night passed a bill to fund the entire department for eight weeks through May 22. The vote was 213-203. The two-month funding extension approved by the House is unlikely to advance in the Senate, where legislation requires 60 votes and support from some Democrats."We’ve been clear from day one: Democrats will fund critical Homeland Security functions -- but we will not give a blank check to Trump’s lawless and deadly immigration militia without reforms," House Republicans were livid that the bill passed by the Senate does not fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and parts of Customs and Border Patrol . Democrats refused to fund those departments without changes to immigration enforcement practices. "We're going to do something different,” Johnson said, challenging the Senate to take up the House's short-term fix to fund Homeland Security into May. The stalemate has had growing consequences nationwide. Thousands of federal workers, including Transportation Security Administration officers, have been required to work without pay, contributing to staffing shortages and long lines at airport security checkpoints. President Donald Trump has taken steps to ease some of the strain, signing an executive order to ensure TSA workers receive pay during the shutdown, though other DHS employees remain affected. "Democrats want to let illegals come into the country -- criminals, murderers, every kind of criminal you can imagine -- and the Republicans just don't want to have it happen," Trump said.on Friday, said the conflict in Iran also makes it "absolutely vital" for the "radical left" in Congress to end the "dangerous" shutdown. He said Democrats are "playing games" and described them as "lunatics." "For 42 days, they’ve tried to completely eliminate funding for the number one duty of government, which is keeping America safe," he said on Friday. "And they want no ICE. They want no Border Patrol. They want no protection of any kind to be given -- re-opening our borders and stopping all immigration enforcement in our country. They want to have our borders be open again.” Efforts to break the impasse have repeatedly failed, with both parties blaming each other for prolonging the crisis. With the Senate in recess and no compromise in sight, the shutdown appears likely to continue -- putting it on track to set a new record for duration.Passengers on a Delta Air Lines flight departing Salt Lake City said their plane was held on the tarmac for nearly an hour to wait for a late-arriving passengerA suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting near4500 South on northbound I-15.The shooting involved a Utah Highway Patrol trooper, who jumped out of hA confrontation on Interstate 15 turned deadly after a Utah Highway Patrol trooper said a driver rear-ended him and then threatened him with a knife. The fatal eSeven people were injured, and a child was killed, after Ogden police said a 14-year-old driver fled from officers in Weber County.Officials with the Ogden CityA St. George neighborhood experienced an infestation of hundreds of roof rats.
