The prime minister says a parliamentary sitting should not be turned into a court proceeding.
Anwar Ibrahim rejected calls for Parliament to discuss the conditional discharge from corruption charges granted to deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi earlier this week.
Anwar, the PKR president, said there was a need to understand the separation of powers between the three branches of government, namely the executive, legislature and judiciary. “The attorney-general is neither an MP nor a minister,” he told reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Sri Petaling here. He had been charged with embezzling millions of ringgit from his foundation, Yayasan Akalbudi, and accepting bribes for various projects during his tenure as the home minister between 2013 and 2018.
