PARIS, France — The U.S. women’s gymnastics team reasserted itself as the best in the world Tuesday, winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics and burying the disappointment of a runner-up finish to Russia in 2021.

The conversion gave the U.S. a 14-12 win and the bronze, the first Olympics medal ever for the team.Biles had a therapy session Tuesday to ensure she remained calm for the finals.
In women’s swimming, Reagan Smith won silver and Katharine Berkoff the bronze in the 100-meter backstroke. Katie Ledecky cruised to an easy win in the 1,500-meter freestyle semifinal and will compete in the final on Wednesday. There was disappointment for the U.S. on Tuesday. Tennis star Coco Gauff lost in the third round to Donna Vekic of Croatia, 7-6 , 6-2. Gauff got into a heated argument with the chair umpire during the match and reports say she seemed unable to recover after the umpire ignored her pleas.
