Canoeist Jessica Fox has become the first Australian ever to win six individual Olympic medals but there was disappointment in the swimming. Follow our live coverage.
Australia have gone down to the USA in their third group match, losing 2-1 to a dominant US team, and must now wait on the result of another group match between Canada and Colombia to see if their Olympic dreams are over.
Korbin Albert then slammed home the US’s second goal in the 75th minute, nearly all but assuring the victory. But Australia then found a new lease of life with a flurry of pressing that led to Alanna Kennedy toeing the ball into the goal after Michelle Heyman headed it into her path. Kennedy then nearly scored again just moments later, an attempted header that whistled past her at the post. But it was too little too late and the game ended with the US on top 2-1.
