Parents are expressing anxiety and frustration after learning that their trusted childcare facility, Little Explorers Academy, will no longer be part of the Early REACH program in Harris County, leaving them with just 30 days to find new arrangements. The program, funded by federal recovery dollars post-COVID-19, notified parents on New Year's Eve that Little Explorers had not been selected for the next phase of funding.
Parents are pleading for answers and transparency from the program officials, who have yet to publicly explain the decision. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo has acknowledged the situation and promised to investigate. Little Explorers Academy, a 4-Star Texas Rising Star School, claims to have been unaware of any specific evaluation criteria or scoring process. The owner, DeAna Kindt, suspects retaliation for her previous inquiries about the program's funding and operations.
