Parents of a Black River High School student have filed a lawsuit over a sexual assault at a track meet in Ashland.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The parents of a Black River track and field athlete said in a lawsuit filed this week that officials at two schools failed to protect their daughter from being sexually assaulted at a track meet in Ashland.
The girl’s parents this week filed the lawsuit in federal court in Cleveland against Black River and Mapleton school officials, including athletic directors and track coaches at both schools. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the girl’s parents by attorneys Eric Long and Tyler Walchanowicz, said Mapleton officials directed teams to set up tents for locker rooms that were far from the competition and in an area with no supervision, security or proper lighting.
Two students from another school district followed her into the tent and sexually assaulted her, according to the lawsuit.
