The father reportedly went to play video games, while the mother went to take a nap.

A 15-month-old girl died after being left in a hot car on San Antonio’s far west side yesterday afternoon. Deputies say Aaron Michael Combs and Shevetta Leandra Combs have been charged with negligence after their daughter, Ariyanna Combs, was left inside as temperatures climbed toward 100 degrees on Thursday afternoon.

They said they can’t believe a child died this way in their neighborhood. “You know, it’s too hot for any of us to be outside. I mean, for a long period of time, you know, especially in a car where it gets really, really hot,” said the neighbor.“Reportedly, the father of the baby, Aaron Michael Combs, went in to play video games, and Shavetta Leandra Combs, the baby’s mother, went in to take a nap,” said Salazar.“I mean the first person to notice this was an elementary-aged child,” said Salazar. Investigators say with video from a neighborhood camera and interviews with the parents, they were able to reconstruct the timeline and make arrests. “Being that we were able to reconstruct the day’s events from talking to the parents, but additionally, the video that we were actually able to see from a neighborhood camera, this far exceeded just being absent-minded for a few seconds. This was a two-hour timeframe that there was ample opportunity to stop playing a video game or wake up from a nap and think about where your baby might be,” said Salazar. Both parents are booked into the Bexar County Jail on charges of injury to a child causing death, a second-degree felony. The couple’s two older children, both in elementary school, are now staying with a grandparent while the case moves forward. Each parent’s bond has been set at $60,000.
