A new measles case was reported at Bingham Kopper Kids daycare inside Bingham High School, prompting concern among parents and a warning from the county health
Officials stated that the infected individual, who is unvaccinated, was at the daycare from Dec. 1-5. The Salt Lake County Health Department is now urging parents and children to watch for symptoms, stressing that those without the MMR vaccine face the highest risk.
The Jordan School District said that, after consulting with the health department, it is safe for the daycare to remain open.Health officials warn of measles exposure at three Utah locations“It’s so contagious that if someone with measles walks into a room, and they leave, that room will have those very small airborne droplets that are still in the air for two hours,” said health department spokesperson Gabriel Moreno.“I’m a little bit further away from right here, but if it were in my area, I’d be a lot more nervous,” she said. “There is certainly a chance for individuals that are a little more vulnerable to have more grave sickness when it comes to measles,” Moreno said. Several parents picking up students at the school said they were unaware of the reported case, while others reported receiving a notification. Some said they were unconcerned. Health officials now recommend that children as young as six months old receive the vaccine if they are in an area with active cases, such as Salt Lake County.This latest case is the third confirmed measles case in Salt Lake County this year. Statewide, Utah has reported 115 cases so far in 2025, including 20 identified within the past three weeks.School officials said they continue to work closely with the health department as questions remain about where the infection originated and who may have been exposed.
