Paramount has canceled Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after two seasons, despite its 100% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score. The animated series, created for Paramount+, was part of the same universe as the 2023 film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

The show will conclude with its upcoming season, which is set to premiere on Paramount+ in December 2025 before moving to its scheduled linear window on Nicktoons in 2026. The news comes shortly after the Paramount-Skydance merger, which has triggered a wide-scale restructuring across the company. All Paramount linear networks, including Nickelodeon and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, have been consolidated into a new TV media division as part of the overhaul. Per a news report, the studio is now focusing on a more “curated slate” centered on high-performing legacy brands, including SpongeBob SquarePants, South Park, and PAW Patrol, clearly reshaping Paramount’s lineup for the upcoming year. In addition to canceling Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the media giant is also pulling the plug on Dora, the reboot of Nickelodeon’s successful cartoon, Dora the Explorer . Dora Season 4 has been completed but has yet to receive a streaming date, while the fate of a fully produced Season 5 remains unclear. The animated series will also debut on Paramount+ before continuing to air on Nick Jr. Paramount is also actively exploring third-party licensing opportunities for both canceled series, a strategy the studio has increasingly relied on in recent years, with titles including The Fairly OddParents and Rugrats finding second homes on Netflix. The ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Franchise Is Far From Over Despite the recent cancellation, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise continues to expand. Paramount is now developing a sequel for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which is set for a theatrical release on September 17, 2027. The upcoming film had to be pushed back by a year due to delays in animation production. However, it will see the return of Jeff Rowe as the director, while Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg serve as producers. The studio is also moving beyond animation with a live-action adaptation of the acclaimed comic storyline, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, which is officially in development. This marks the first TMNT live-action movie since Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows . Walter Hamada is set to produce the upcoming R-rated project, but a release date has not been announced yet. IDW Publishing and Paramount also continue to collaborate on the relaunched TMNT comics line. The ongoing series, written by Jason Aaron, recently spawned a highly anticipated spin-off centered on the fan-favorite character, Casey Jones. The six-issue miniseries, launched on September 10, 2025, dives into the vigilante’s backstory and brings together several iterations of him while introducing a new villain engineered to be his ideological opposite. Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 2 will premiere on Paramount+ this December. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
