Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's long-awaited reunion should be Paramount+'s next movie project. The time is right after Star Trek: Picard's setup.

Now that Paramount+ has begun producing original Star Trek movies, a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine reunion movie should be top of their list of potential projects. The announcement that the Star Trek: Section 31 movie would be the first original movie for the streaming service allows for future standalone Trek movies to start appearing on Paramount+.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Although modern Star Trek has featured an impressive array of legacy characters in recent years, characters from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine have largely been absent. With just a few notable exceptions, the DS9 crew hasn't had anything on the level of Star Trek: Picard or Star Trek: Voyager's stealth sequel, Star Trek: Prodigy.

The return of the Changelings revealed that the Dominion Founders are still a threat in Star Trek's 25th century. Although Captain Vadic was the leader of a rogue schism of evolved Changelings, it was clear that there are still significant scars left over from the end of the Dominion War.

Why DS9 Keeps Getting Ignored By Star Trek On Paramount+ Except for Worf in Star Trek: Picard season 3, and Star Trek: Lower Decks' DS9 episode, the characters from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine have largely been ignored by modern Trek. There are good reasons for this, as Alex Kurtzman and his creative team have had many discussions about how they could approach the legacy of the acclaimed DS9.

Regardless, Kurtzman's caution makes sense, given how perfect an ending the finale, "What You Leave Behind," gave to its characters. A Star Trek: Deep Space Nine standalone movie that focused on those characters who still have stories to tell would therefore be the ideal way to approach a revival. A film focused on how Jake Sisko coped with the disappearance of his father, or a film about Dr.
