From para archery to wheelchair rugby, Team USA is off to a roaring start during the first several days in Paris for the 2024 Paralympics. NBC’s Emilie Ikeda shares highlights on TODAY.
Australian runner Jaryd Clifford says he is “devastated” after being disqualified from a Paralympic event over the weekend. Clifford, 25, finished third in the men’s 5000-meter T13 final Aug. 31, but he was disqualified from the bronze because he released his tether from his guide runner before crossing the finish line, according to the Paralympics Australia website. Some Paralympic athletes with a vision impairment compete with a guide runner using a tether.
“I felt good, I have so much more to give and I promise I’ll bring everything I’ve got for the 1500m on Tuesday. I’m feeling so much love, I’ve got a great team of people around me,” he continued. “Sport can be a cruel beast at times, but the tough times are what make the good times so great.” Clifford also included a shoutout to his two running guides, Tim Logan and Matt Clarke, in his post. “Couldn’t be prouder to have worn the Australian singlet alongside my best mates,” he wrote.
