Newly hired Carolina coach Frank Reich told reporters at the NFL’s annual meetings that “a lot of it was confirmation,” according to the. The Panthers attended workouts for Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Alabama’s Bryce Young and Kentucky’s Will Levis, and a group that included owner David Tepper hosted each quarterback for dinner the night before their throwing sessions.
There is no indication the Panthers have reached a decision. Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson’s pro day workout is Thursday, and Reich called Richardson an “exciting prospect” and told reporters there are moments on film that “scream top pick.” The 6-foot-4, 244-pound quarterback ran a 4.43 40-yard dash at the scouting combine and set the event’s record for quarterbacks with a 40½-inch vertical.
NFL decision-makers are leery of Richardson’s lack of experience at Florida, where he played in just 22 games in three seasons. Richardson threw for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 12 games last season, and Reich admitted Richardson’s 53.8 completion percentage is lower than he’d want but wasn’t discouraged overall.
