Joining the Panthers in November meant Henderson faced a difficult on-the-fly acclimation period. The 2022 campaign represented a fresh start for Henderson, but he didn’t fare much better despite having a full offseason to familiarize himself with his new surroundings.
Henderson was heavily involved in the Panthers’ defense this past year. He totaled 755 defensive snaps, with 489 of them occurring in coverage. Henderson was an uneven performer, allowing 51 receptions on 74 targets, per Pro Football Focus. That equated to a lackluster target-to-reception conversion rate of 68.9%. Opposing quarterbacks enjoyed a passer rating of 106.9 when targeting Henderson in coverage. The former Florida standout allowed a healthy 12.
Offensive coordinators felt good about isolating their playmakers against Henderson. In Week 17, Henderson allowed nine receptions on 11 targets for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiverPanthers general manager Scott Fitterer responded to Henderson’s struggles by declining his fifth-year option in May. It was an expected decision and means Henderson is now entering a contract season. He’s scheduled to earn a base salary of $3.4 million, according to Spotrac.
