Mei Xiang, a panda at the National Zoo, could be having a cub soon. Veterinarians found what appear to be fetal tissue during an ultrasound. 'In the middle of a pandemic, this is a joyful moment we can all get excited about,' said the chief veterinarian.

"In the middle of a pandemic, this is a joyful moment we can all get excited about," said Don Neiffer, the zoo's chief veterinarian who also conducted the ultrasound."We are optimistic that very shortly she may give birth to a healthy cub or cubs." Friday's ultrasound was the second sign of a possible fetus. Last week, veterinarians detected signs consistent with fetal tissues and have since noticed developing skeletal structure and strong blood flow in Mei Xiang's uterus.
