Mayor Karen Bass and Chief Recovery Officer Steve Soboroff presented the recovery phases for the Palisades Fire, with the EPA leading hazardous material removal in phase one. While a precise timeline remains unclear, officials emphasize the urgency of the process and the importance of community support.

Mayor Karen Bass and Chief Recovery Officer Steve Soboroff outlined the recovery phases for the Palisades Fire , but a concrete timeline remains elusive. The walking tour followed a news conference focused on the recovery and rebuilding process.Phase one will be managed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as they remove hazardous materials, including lithium battery waste.

Phase two involves debris removal, offering residents the option to hire a licensed contractor or utilize the city's services. Soboroff clarified that the entire Palisades doesn't need to complete phase one before homeowners can commence phase two.Bass emphasized that her team is committed to expediting the process, but a specific timeline is unattainable due to the extensive damage. During a visit to the Palisades last Friday, Bass stressed the toxicity of the fire-affected areas. 'What is so difficult for people is to understand that right now, especially if their place was destroyed, it's really toxic. It's dangerous for them to be there,' she said. 'There will be a time when they can do the cleaning, but the EPA has got to be in charge with this phase of it. And it would be nice if they (EPA) can say by next week, on this day, at this time, it'll be done. But you know Josh, that's impossible to do,' she continued. Bass highlighted the importance of maintaining communication with the Congressional delegation responsible for allocating resources.Addressing community events, Soboroff announced that if air quality permits, the Palisades will host its annual July 4th celebration this year. He also revealed that he's collaborating with the local Ralphs market, which was destroyed in the fire, to potentially establish a pop-up market in an undamaged building in the area
